Salamander Stoves - the Hobbit Stove

The Hobbit Stove from Salamander is a small, multi fuel stove that can burn wood and coal. It is available as the standard model and the SE model for smoke control zones when burning smokeless fuels (Defra approved model).

The Hobbit has been designed as a small stove to fit into amazing small spaces. It can also be positioned within an ornate cast iron surround, replacing an inefficient open fire while retaining your original surround.

Salamander designed the Hobbit to have all the attributes of a larger stove, engineered into a smaller package. It is only 302mm wide, 272mm deep and 465mm high, making it ideal for installation into areas where space is tight. The small dimensions of the Hobbit mean that it can be installed into a small fireplace without the need for remedial building work.

Colouring your Hobbit stove

You can easily change your stove from black into a wide range of colour options. You will need:

• suitable space
• very fine emery or sand paper
• a dry, clean lint free cloth
• 3 x 400ml stove paint
• safety glasses and mask

Several light coats will produce a better finish than one very heavy application. Both the stove and the stove paint are designed to be applied at room temperature (20-25 Celcius) so both should be stored at this temperature for a minimum of 3 hours prior to the start of the spraying. The surface of the stove should be rubbed with the sand paper to allow the paint to adhere better. Clean the stove with the cloth. The stove paint and stove should be at room temperature and the paint well mixed. Angle the direction of the spray to cover all surfaces.

It is important to let the new paint cure properly. Start with a series of small fires. The cured paint will give off a vapour and smell so make sure the room is vacated and ventilated. Contact us for full instructions on how best to paint your stove safely.
